Douglas J. Spiel, M.D.
Dr. Doug Spiel, is a Board Certified Radiologist and member of the World Institute of Pain. He was the first radiologist in the country to become a Diplomat of the American Board of Interventional Pain Physicians. For the past few years, he has also served on its executive board. As a fellow of interventional pain practice (FIPP), he is credentialed to both teach and practice abroad. In addition, Dr. Spiel sits on the editorial board of Pain Physician, the world’s preeminent pain journal and personally reviews articles prior to publication.
For over 15 years, Dr. Spiel has specialized in Interventional Pain, providing both surgical and non-surgical treatment options. He treats patients with both spine and non-spine related pain – including disc herniation, pinched nerves, failed back surgery, CRPS/RSD, chronic pelvic pain and numerous other maladies. Over the last decade, advances in medical technology have enabled him to utilize lasers and endoscopes through keyhole incisions to remove disc herniations and treat pinched nerves. His unique background provides him with the expertise to pinpoint a myriad of pain generators and treat them accordingly.
Dr. Spiel incorporates his diverse knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology, along with extensive training and experience as a pain physician, to treat many medical conditions. He has recently expanded his private practice to assist those with sexual dysfunction disorders – erectile dysfunction (ED), pelvic pain, vulvodynia and interstitial cystitis. Dr. Spiel also expanded his practice to integrate Regenerative Medicine services for patients with musculoskeletal conditions and erectile dysfunction. Dr. Spiel is also a notable figure in the development of Intellicath, a tined, indwelling catheter used for continuous infusion of medication with use of an external pump.
